Altered with Audrey

>> Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Is there anyone out there who likes to alter? I have to be honest and say that it is not my most favorite thing - but wow - after working with this canvas - i may be hooked. The colors in the Audrey line go perfect in my office so i was excited to get to work and create this. I started with a blank white canvas - the background colour was created with a few different colors - it came out a little bright - but after everything was put on - i was happy with the end result. I tore out some old book pages and modge podged them to the canvas and covered them with paint. I then used Maya Mist to create the paint splattered look. Click on the image to get a closer look!

So if you like to Alter - lets see what you can do with the Audrey line - I need some inspiration and a little extra push to do this more often - i had so much fun thinking outside the box - even though a canvas is a lot like a layout - i still felt like i was creating something above and beyond - something i will hang up and display in my home.

Monday Motivator - Quick and Easy Audrey Pages

>> Monday, September 21, 2009

Happy Monday.  We've spent a good deal of time this month showing you just how versatile the Audrey line is with pages ranging from Patriotic to girly-girl. Now we'd like to share with you just how quick and easy it is to use, as well.

Design Team member Jill Sprott created this quick and gorgeous sentiment page as a way to document her appreciation for her Sister-in-law. Below, she shares three tips for keeping it easy.

(1) I kept embellishments to a minimum by using the perfect-out-of-the-package Lily Bee flowers. Rather than spend time rummaging through my stash for color-coordinated accents, I misted one of the small pink flowers so that it would work with the photo and the papers. It dried really quickly.

(2) Aside from the cardstock, I used scraps for every part of this layout, cutting the coordinating Audrey patterned papers into blocks and strips and layering a few on top of each other. The papers in this line complement each other beautifully.

(3) The fastest part of all was the part that usually takes me the longest -- the journaling. I knew that it would be a challenge to put into words what makes my sister-in-law such a gift, so I used a journaling strategy that works for me when I'm feeling intimidated or tongue - tied: look at the person in the photo, and write to him or her, sharing what comes to mind when you look at the photo(s) of him or her. I sometimes find that composing the journaling gets tangled up with placing the journaling, so in those cases, I separate the two. Rather than worry about where to place the journaling, I printed it on cardstock, added a ribbon tab, and slipped the journaling behind the photo.

I, Lori Gentile, created this quick page to document my love of my morning routine; coffee and email. This page will go straight into my Book of Me album. Below are my three tips on keeping it easy.

(1) The new Audrey rub-ons are perfect for creating quick and easy titles because of the larger 12 x 12 size. My tip for rub-ons; leave them in the original packaging and just cut out, with scissors, the rub-on you plan to use. This keeps the leftovers secure, in place, and ready for the next use.

(2) The Audrey die cuts are so easy to use. I quickly traced the outside of the die-cut around the edge of my paper to give it a border, which keeps the eye from drifting off the page. Then, instead of cutting up patterned paper to layer around my photo, I simply placed the die cut to the side and underneath my photo. The pre-cut design adds a nice, fancy-looking detail with very little effort.

(3) To keep things easy on myself, I hand-wrote my journaling. This is my favorite way to save time when making layouts.

I wanted to remind you to enter our Audrey Challenge. You now have until October 20th to create up to two layouts, cards or projects using the Audrey line and upload them to our Ning gallery. Two lucky winners will get the entire line of Audrey products. Good luck! We can't wait to see what you do.

September Guest Designer-Katie Watson

>> Monday, September 7, 2009

We are so thrilled to have Katie Watson as our Guest Designer this month! Katie creates AMAZING Mini Albums and has created one with our products to share with you.
We will post the first half of her mini and then the second half later this month on the 17th. PURE EYE CANDY!

Must Have Scrapbook Supply?
Fabri-Tac. It's a fabric glue that is my miracle glue. I use it for almost everything. If I don't have it, I don't scrap.

When & why did you start scrapbooking?
I started scrapping in 2002. It was at the end of one of my husbands deployments and once the babies were in bed I had to do something to fight off missing him. Plus I have always had to have a creative outlet and once I discovered scrapbooking, I was hooked.

Guilty Pleasures:
French Vanilla creamer. I can't drink coffee without it now.

Two things you want very badly at this moment:
A new computer and Photoshop.

3 items that are in your purse:
Trash, trash, trash.

Favorite Scrapbook Technique/ or Style?
Shabby chic and anything with chipboard and paint.

When do you feel most creative?
Morning, for sure. I think it's the French Vanilla creamer!

Do you snack while you scrapbook?
Never. I hate greasy fingerprints.

Do you have a scrapbook confession?
That half of my creative ideas come from trying to cover up something that I totally messed up.

Favorite TV Shows?
Intervention, Dateline, Hell's Kitchen and The Bachelorette/Bachelor.

Jobs you've had?
Does wiping noses and making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches count? Or just the jobs that make money? I used to be a visual merchandiser. I was also a buyer for a children's resale store. My kids favorite story of past jobs is my Sea World job. They asked me if I worked with the whales or the dolphins. Um, the ice cream. Do you want a single or a double?

What are you listening to right now?
The kids are watching Disney Channel downstairs, so I guess that is what I am listening to. I don't listen to music while I work. Too distracting! But my music of choice is Norah Jones, she makes lowers my blood pressure.

friday faves 8/4-bee inspired

>> Friday, September 4, 2009

happy friday everyone! i hope everyone has some very relaxing plans for the long weekend. i'm seeing lots of beautiful lily bee projects these days. here are a few that caught my eye this week.

the first one is by danielle calhoun who is always an inspiration to me. i love her layering, distressing of the french couture papers and the way she used the rub ons.

second, is a layout by tonya dirk. i just love how the red background makes the red in the french couture papers pop. and i think those t shirts were made for that paper...what a perfect match.

and just look at this page by scrappygirljenni. i love how she used the french couture die cuts here. and that photo is so sweet!

and this layout by Carcol using the three little birds line is simply adorable! i love the circles and the jewels are a nice touch.

thank you ladies, for the inspiration. i really love what everyone has been doing with lily bee products. i can't wait to see what you all do with the new stuff. don't forget to enter them in the september challenge when you have your audrey projects finished. have a good one!
