Summer 2012 Sneak Peek Week!

It's pretty unbelievable that Summer CHA is only a few short weeks away! We are busy, busy, busy, wrapping up loose ends to present three brand new beautiful lines at CHA. In addition, we also have other fun news that we are hoping to reveal this week as well. So keep your eyes peeled as there is much fun to come this week!

Above you will find our first sneak peek of what we are calling "Collection One". Tomorrow you'll see a similar sneak of Collection 2, then Collection 3 on Thursday! We don't want to give it all away, just a little teaser for now. I promise more will be revealed soon! So what do you think? We'd love to hear!

True Friendship

Sometimes, I get so caught up in scrapping about my family and what is going on in our lives that I don't think to record my friendships.  

In the layout I'm sharing today, I wanted to highlight a very special friendship I have with a woman I truly consider to be my sister.  No, we're not blood sisters, but we are certainly as close as sister's might expect to be.

I love that good friends walk together through life. And since I used a gridded paper for the background, I was able to easily write my about our 'walk' together directly on the background paper.

I'm a big fan of having tabs that stick up above the top edge of my page.  They look great, add a little unexpected dimension and still fit nicely inside my albums. Here, I used the Victoria Park Journal Cards to add the effect of tabs.

I love using the 6x6 pads to create my own embellishments.  For the flower below, I simply punched a couple of shapes out of the small-scale patterned papers and added a brad.

Overall, you'll see there are a lot of details added to the page but it still retains the feeling of having white space to allow the eye to rest.  Clustering makes it possible.

A Colorful Birthday Banner

Hi, everyone, Patricia here to share a birthday banner with you.  With just pattern paper, twine, some adhesive, and a die cutting machine or punches, it really is easy to make your own banner.  What is really best about making your own banner, is you get to pick your colors.

My daughter's birthday party theme is rainbow, so I knew I wanted bright colors.  This banner was quick to put together because I kept it simple, using lots of repeating pattern papers.  

I used the Silhouette, and stayed with one color for the circles with the cut out letters.

Then backed those green circles with another circle using a simple contrasting pattern paper in yellow. 

For the circles with the cut out hearts, I did the same thing, except instead of the green polka dot paper, I chose the pink polka dots, and repeated those throughout the banner.

I made the blue folded flowers using a border punch and a score board.  Then layered a scalloped orange polka dot circle right on top. The pink polka dot hearts were attached with foam adhesive.  I kept the banner light because it is so long.  And then the last thing to do...attaching each piece with a piece of twine.

Vacation Scrapping with Buttercup (and just a little Handmade)

Good morning, everyone!

It's a bright, happy summer day here, and even though a vacation isn't in the plans for me just yet, I'm having fun reliving past trips by scrapping some of my neglected travel photos.

This layout documents part of a trip my husband and I took to Aruba early last year. I just loved bright,  colors of many of the buildings we passed by, so I took a cue from my photos and pulled together a beach-y color palette using Lily Bee's Buttercup collection, with just a bit of Handmade thrown in to add a little pink. The Mushroom Stationery (also from Buttercup) completes the look by giving the page a subtle worn look reminiscent of the peeling paint found on nearly any building that's near the ocean.

What about you guys? Is anyone else itching to pull out vacation photos and scrap them?

Bright and Busy!

I love color and pattern and lots of everything on my layouts. It's happy and fun just like my youngest who recently had his 7th birthday. I knew a bright and busy look was want I wanted for a birthday page to record this event but how to go about it and still keep it under control  had me perplexed.

Enter the simple circle punch. Circle punches are simple timeless tools that never go out of style and every papercrafter should own a few. By punching all my papers with the same punch, the repetition provides unity in the design and even better, there was no measuring and cutting involved.

I've used the beautiful Double Dutch line for this layout. I love how the gingham adds such a summery look and it's perfect for boys as well as girls.

The Double Dutch Index Journaling Cards are great for journaling but they are also perfect for matting photos with.

Mini pinwheels make a sweet childhood accent on a page. I've created mine out of 2.5" squares of Double Dutch patterned paper.

Introducing Amy Heller + 4000 Facebook Likes Event

Hi Lily Bee fans!! I have some very exciting news to announce today... Amy Heller is joining Lily Bee Design as our New Design Team Coordinator! I'm sure many of you know Amy and are familiar with her work. I feel very blessed to be working with her and looking forward to her creating with our products. Let's find out a little bit more about her...

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be here at Lily Bee Design and working with Kristen and the rest of the fantastic Design Team!!

Here's a little about me:
I was introduced to scrapping in 2004, like many scrappers, from an in-home party. But I didn't scrap with real consistency until 2008, once my kids were a bit older and out of their infancy stages. :) As a graphic designer by profession, this hobby has brought me back to the fundamental reasons why I fell in love with design in the first place : paper, color, letter form and layout. My style has of course evolved from those early days. Now I would definitely say that I have a fun, cheerful, colorful and whimsical style. I LOVE to layer pattern, color and texture (especially with buttons, ribbon and sewing). I think it's safe to say that I love to embellish on my work. :) I currently design for American Crafts, October Afternoon, and am a Garden Girl for Two Peas in a Bucket. I've been fortunate to have had my work published in several publications including Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbook Trends, CARDS, Paper Crafts as well as Scrapbooks and Cards Today. I am from the beautiful state of Washington, but I currently live in a small town in Connecticut with my awesome husband of 12 years, our daughter, who is nearly 10 and our son who is turning six in just a couple weeks. I am super excited to be here at Lily Bee Design! :D

Kristen and I have been working hard the last couple weeks to put together lots of new and exciting ideas that we will begin to debut here on the blog within the next couple weeks. We are super excited and hope you will be too, so stay tuned for that!

On another note, I thought I would share a layout today using LOTS of pieces from Lily Bee Design's most recent product collections, Victoria Park, Handmade, Buttercup, and Double Dutch. I peeled out all of the greens and yellows from the collections to play up the colors in these fun photos of my darling daughter that shows her swinging on her swing set . She's almost 10, leaving elementary school in just a few short days, entering intermediate school in the fall, and "I keep thinking (to myself) it won't be long before...." she won't want to swing on her little swing any more. So, I try to capture as many of these sweet everyday moments as I can, so I can hold on to time a little longer. Time just seems to be passing too quickly, and I'm not altogether ready for it!

Next up, we have an exciting event that we are starting today!!! We are trying to get our Lily Bee Design Facebook page up to 4,000 LIKES!

Get Happy!

The first few weeks of our summer vacation have been spent doing a variety of fun activities - a trip to the beach, backyard barbeques, crafty projects with the kids and movie nights. Throw in a few lazy mornings watching cartoons, s'mores around the campfire, and sunset viewing from the front porch and it's easy to see that so far, summer has been a pretty darn happy season.

It was that notion that led me to create the page I'm sharing today. It serves as a little reminder that these events shouldn't just be saved for summer vacation - every day is a great occasion to seek out happiness!

The Handmade patterned papers add the bulk of the color on this page. The hexagon die-cut is backed with pieces from the Handmade paper, Patchwork. By placing them behind the white die-cut borders, they add a lot of punch without overwhelming the design. This is also a great use for some of those paper scraps!

The title is simple and bold, and clearly communicates the message of my page. It was also die-cut from white cardstock with the word "Happy" cut from the Handmade Sky Blue paper.
