Pinwheels and Frames

>> Saturday, July 30, 2011

Hi everyone!

Iris here sharing with you a layout I made for my friend Arlene David. The pinwheel flowers were cut using the Lily Bee Stationery Line, and the small mini frames at the background were stamped with the "This and That" stamp set.

I always have so much fun creating with Lily Bee. Now I can't wait to get my hands on the new releases!

Have a great day guys!

Summer Time?

>> Friday, July 29, 2011

I sometimes wonder where the time goes in the summer. I struggle between finding the time to document the moments by creating scrapbook pages, and actually getting out and creating the memories to scrap. So I'm always looking for ways to do both.

One of my favorite shortcuts is to "block" a layout. And as a happy accident, I noticed then I set my 4x6 photo on the sticker sheet, they are 6" wide, so I even cut the section out from the sheet itself to use on my page. I was able to finish my layout in about 30 minutes, with plenty of time to get outside and play. WIN WIN.

What are your time-saving tips? I'd love to hear them!

Using up your stash: from start to finish.

>> Thursday, July 28, 2011

Today I want to share with you a layout created with Lily Bee's new collection, Head Over Heels.

One of my favorite papers from this collection is the blue doily/chevron paper, "Dreamy". I used a portion of this paper for a CHA booth layout (hence why you see doilies cut out of the paper below), however, I was determined to use every inch of this paper because it's just gorgeous!

I know many of us are wanting to use up our stash of paper (or scraps!) to make room for all the new lines that will be available soon. So today, I wanted to show you how I used a "pre-used" piece of pattern paper to make a layout.

First, I layered the "Dreamy" pattern paper on top of "Flirt"- a gorgeous pink damask pattern paper in the Head Over Heels Collection. It created a wonderful contrast and really brought out the doily pattern.

Next, I added a kraft envelope, and layered the text chipboard stickers in the Lovely collection over the doily cut outs. I was really excited to see that the shapes fit perfectly together!

I added a few cardstock stickers from the Head over Heels collection down the side of my layout. I used the ABC stickers to change the "Be Mine" sticker to say "She's Mine" in order to fit my topic.

Finally, I finished the layout with my title and handcut flowers from the pattern paper Swoon (which is appropriately named if you ask me!).

I hope this layout inspires you to be creative with some of the pieces in your stash that have been pre-used!

Out of the Album

>> Wednesday, July 27, 2011

We all love photos and scrapbooking but sometimes I just want to get my photos out of the album where I can see them every day. Creating paper crafted frames just seems like a natural extension of scrapbooking and I love making them for friends and family. This particular frame is for my daughter who is heading of to university this fall. The beautiful Lily Bee papers work perfectly with the colours she's chosen for her new room. I also love how beautiful but subtle the papers are. They are designed to enhance your photos and not take away from them.

Today I'll walk you through this quick project and remind you how quick and fun covered wood and chipboard with patterned paper is.

First of all I started with a wood frame I picked up at a local craft store. This one is 8x8" square. I've adhered the patterned paper to the frame with a strong liquid ahesive and then trimmed away the excess. Sandpaper or a sanding file rubber over each edge makes for a nice smooth finish.

Patterned paper is a great way to make your own chipboard embellishments as well. You just need the paper, a die and a piece of chipboard. To get perfect edges and save time, die cut in one step by adhering the patterned paper to the chipboard first before cutting.

Here's the flourishes die cut. They look so much prettier than plain chipboard ones.

To add a little extra personalization to my chipboard bird, I've used the Picket Fence stamp set to stamp on some floral accents and words.

And here's the finished detail.

I Love lego LOTS

>> Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Oh yes - my boy does absolutely love his lego! I used a lovely selection of Lily Bee papers to scrap these photos of him with one of his newest creations ...

I love how flexible Lily Bee papers are - perfect for any layouts ranging from soft and romantic right to totally boy.

I created all my own embellishments on this page using Lily Bee papers and a selection of punches and a large circle cutter. The stars were finished with little brads and a button on the large star.

I used the little This & That ABC stickers for my long title - just perfect to add that extra pop of red on each of the yellow circles ... and allow me to have a super long title that also forms my journalling.

Bowties are cool.

>> Friday, July 22, 2011

In light of all of the awesome new lines coming out from Lily Bee, I figured I needed to get to using up my stash to make room for new stuff!

I created this simply designed layout using that staple of the scrapbooker- the circle punch.

I am not, by nature, a very "graphic" styled designer, so to add a few touches of my own whimsy, I distressed the edges and made several small changes, like tilting the bottom large section.
To give the design a little more depth, I popped up some elements with foam adhesive.

I also hand cut my own "bowtie" to go along with the obvious theme of the layout! I try to keep my boy pages a little more graphic and simple, and I think I achieved that, while sticking true to my style. :)

Shadow Box

>> Thursday, July 21, 2011

Hello Lily Bee fans from a very rainy and cold Sydney...Katja here today showing you a project I had lots of fun doing. I've decorated a Shadow Box for my daughters room with her favorite colors blue, yellow and pink.

First up I've painted all the compartments and outside of the box with crackle paint and after letting it dry (this can take a few hours) put some darker ink over it which will settle in the cracks and give it a bit of a rustic look. I've also painted the front frame with a coat of Glimmer Glaze (you can see bits peeking out from behind the ribbon).
Next all the sides of the compartments were covered with Lily Bee This & That 'Milk Bottle' paper.
The flower in the lower right corner was created by using a 12in strip of paper, cutting all along the strip in small intervals (make sure not to cut all the way through) and then rolling the strip around the end of a thin object (I used a brush but a quilling tool would be even better). Glue the ends together and start bending the little strips over to create your flower.
Here are some close ups of the project. I hope you enjoyed this!
