I bought these two corkboard/photo frames from the Target Dollar Spot a few weeks back (although, these are actually $2.50 each- that whole "Dollar" spot thing can be deceiving sometimes!).

This weekend, I pulled out some of my Lily Bee papers & rub ons and went to town, utilizing my Silhouette machine, of course!

I used a mixture of papers from several lines: Hello Sunshine, Lovely, and French Couture.I love how you can mix and match these lines and they work so well together!

bits + pieces.

>> Sunday, August 29, 2010

admit it...you save/hoard even the most random bits of leftovers if you really love them, right? clearly i do, lol.

i had been hanging onto the remnants/negative of the Hello Sunshine die-cuts for who knows how long. they'd get bent and crimped in my box of leftovers...passed over time and again...and then i realized there was still plenty of color there to be used up!

i just trimmed around what was left from the backing and ended up with these fun frames. cut them to bits and started gluing around the edge. they just popped right off the page when i backed them against the grey cardstock! used one of the Hello Sunshine rub-ons for my title AND my journaling jump start...and even the rest of the papers on this one were cast-offs from past projects.

proof that you should never throw away a bit of something...
9 times out of 10 it can be repurposed as something fun.

Happy Friday! Each Friday we share some wonderful creations that catch our eye from our gallery. Our gallery is bursting with inspiration and is really worth looking through. Thank you for continuing to load your work to our gallery.

Lisa Wilkinson's page "You Make Me Happy" made me really happy. There are so many fun details on this page and I especially love the banner title. It's just super sweet.

Heather Ribble created this adorable page of her daughter sleeping. I love the color blocking with the gorgeous chipboard border. It's a very eye-catching touch.

"Life" by KAO is pretty spectacular! That sweet, sweet larger photo draws you in immediately and then just look at that stunning flower. I adore everything about this page!

Thank you for stopping by our blog. Enjoy your weekend!

Making the Most of It

>> Wednesday, August 25, 2010

One of the things that I believe scrapbooking teaches is to make the most of those every day things. Each moment is worth treasuring.

While school may be in in many places, here in Ontario we have another twelve days before school starts. We're still making the most of summer and all the wonderful things that come with it.

The same thought holds true with scrapbooking supplies. I loved to hoard every last scrap of my favorite papers and embellishments and make the most of each piece. But how do you create a layout with all these little pieces?

One way I like to do this is by piecing together my papers for a fun quilted effect. You can layer them on your layout randomly or adhere them all to a scrap piece of cardstock. This works great especially if you plan to stitch them all together. The smaller area will turn in the sewing machine with less bending.

Did you notice I've combined papers from both the Lily Bee Hello Sunshine and the Lovely lines? I love their continuity of style and how combining them gives a fun color pop.

Enjoy your day and don't forget to make the most of it!

break them up...

All those YUMMY rub-ons on that big 12x12 sheet are just dying to be broken up & used in so many other ways.

I took the liberty in doing so on my Rippled Wave page. As much as I love using the rub-ons as they come in the package, I love breaking them up even more. I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere the clear circle accents & chipboard, which is seriously amazing! Then I randomly added words I felt expressed the photo to my page. Keeping it SIMPLE!

Accessorizing!!!

>> Tuesday, August 24, 2010

In the fashion world, everyone says that accessories "make" the outfit. Accessories add sparkle, texture, and detail. I believe the same is true when creating a layout-- accessories bring life to the canvas.

Today, my layout features the Accessories of the Lily Bee Lovely Line. I decided to challenge myself to use very little patterned paper (since that's my "go-to" item) and only use the Lily Bee Lovely Rub-ons, Die-Cut Frames, and Chipboard Stickers.

First, I began this layout by misting the cardstock, and then I added the Lovely Rub-Ons. I love the genuine quotes on the rub-ons. They perfectly match the photos of my daughter and the message I was wanting to convey to her.

Knowing that my photos would be on the right-side of the page, I added the rub-ons mostly in the center of the layout (leaving some open spaces behind the photo spots). Here is what it looked like after the rub-ons were in place:

After I applied the rub-ons, I measured and drew a square around the layout (as a guide) and added the stitching. After I stitched the layout, I added the Die Cut (which is cut in half), and then my photos.

Once the photos were in place, I added masking tape, staples, and Lily Bee Chipboard accents. I knew the layout needed a "soft" element, so I added an organza bow and allowed the "tail" to "float" down the page. Helmar's Adhesive Runner was perfect in achieving this look without adding any visible residue. I added very little adhesive behind certain parts of the ribbon's "tail" to keep it secured to the page.

Finally, I punched small butterflies from the Lovely patterned paper collection (ok, i couldn't resist, i had to use a little pattern paper :), and backed the bow with a scallop circle punched from the Lily Bee Packaging!

Last but certainly not least, I added the journaling. The rub-on quotes inspired me to write to my daughter about enjoying the simple things of life-- and always embracing a child-like heart.

I hope this post inspires you to get out your Lily Bee stash and focus on the accessories!!

What Goes Around...

>> Sunday, August 22, 2010

This can be a challenging time of year for those of us
who hit our scrappy stride at the height of summer,
only to find ourselves in a time crunch once school starts again.

My solution?
Scrap only what matters.
That means focusing on the people that you love,
using the products that you love (I'm talking to YOU, Lily Bee!).

I used a bunch of my favorite "old school" Lily Bee papers on this layout.
I love these colors and patterns in a big way.

Usually I incorporate a lot of journaling on my pages,
but these photos of my daughter, taken one year apart,
already spoke volumes for me.
Thus, the title -- once around the merry-go-round,
and she's a different girl. Whoosh.

To keep at least ONE thing on this layout permanent,
I used Helmar's acid free glue to adhere the chipboard letters.
There's nothing more irritating than when you open your albums
and the letters tumble off the pages,
but now these letters will stay put.

One of the other ways you can make your summer
last just a little longer
is to scrap one of your favorite summer memories:

The warm oranges in the Lovely collection
were a perfectly complement to those monstrosities -- er, hats --
we all donned during our summertime tea party.
How could I not dress up the page with some lovely blooms,
including a few chipboard flowers
created using Lily Bee's chipboard florals and Helmar adhesive.

As you look back wistfully on summer,
know that you can also look ahead to fall with excitement,
because you know what's waiting there?
Lily Bee's new lines! Woo hoo!

Happy late Friday evening! I hope you are getting ready to enjoy your weekend.

The industry is alive with misting, inking, water coloring and painting. Our gallery is no exception as it's filled with layouts following this trend of splatters and masks and overall mess. Good mess. Great mess! I love a gal who's not afraid of an ink pad!

So, I wanted to dedicate this post to some gals who've gotten messy playing with Lily Bee. I adore each and everyone one of these layouts. Just sit back and take in all the amazing details and I think you, too, will be impressed!

I simply .enjoy.

Lily bee product.  Its true!  I thought that it would be torture using the older lines because the new ones are sitting right here - but it wasn't - i still ADORE the Hello Sunshine line.... the colors just make me happy.  I had to keep it simple this time around since i'm still some how - 3 weeks later - in the middle of moving - my scraproom is getting neglected so i can get the main part of my house functioning.  But it was nice to take that break and get back to it.  So a simple card - with bright bold patterns to make you smile on this hot summer day!!

I actually found my decorative scissors in the process of moving - and used them at the top of the yellow patterned paper - and of course the die cuts are amazing - they make any card easy, fast and appealing to the eye.  So if you've used the die cuts in an unusual or unique way - show us!!  We would love to see.

Thanks for stopping by and it won't be long before you get to see fun projects using the NEW lines - just be a little patient with us!  Have a great day!

using up those scraps...

>> Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Hi Everyone,

I know you guys are probably eager to see the new collections, I know that I am, but for today, I thought I would share some inspirations to use up those last remaining scraps (and hopefully help you make room for all the new goodies to come).

I figured that it was about time to find away to use up all those bits and pieces that I have been saving (it's always so hard to throw anything away and always end up saving even the tininest pieces of paper). So with the bits and pieces from the LOVELY collection, this little page was created.

As the challenge was to use up all the scraps (instead of cutting into a new sheet), my ever growing collection of punches came in handy. I punched some scallop flowers in various sizes and on some I used the shimmerz blingz to add a bit of glam; and also mixed then up with the chipboard flowers from the collection - to add some dimension to the page. And of course, with the help of the adhesive form HELMAR zapdots, I was able to play around with the different heights of the pieces.

Well hopefully I've been able to inspire you abit and it just amazes me what left over pieces can do. Thanks again for stopping by and can't wait to see your creations!!

Rub it On

>> Tuesday, August 17, 2010

One of my favorite products from Lilybee is their rub-ons.  Giant sheets of fabulous phrases & cool designs that can complete any project.  I love to start a layout with just layering the rub-ons.  I picked three rub-ons that seems to fit perfectly with my friend layout.
I had a rough idea of where i was placing my photo.  I layered the rub-ons on the background after spritzing it with some mists & some paints.  Added my bits of pattern paper, photo, & flower.  To complete the layout, i stitched a few stitches here & there.

There are so many things you can do with rub-ons.  Use them on cards.  Layer them one right on top of each other.  Add them to a canvas for a special touch.  Art journaling.  You don't have to use them as is...you can cut & change them to fit your needs.

All in 30 minutes

>> Sunday, August 15, 2010

Do you get those scrapping moments when you just feel like having fun and you pick random stuff to play with? I love it when that happens. This page features some beautiful die-cut papers, rub-ons, and chipboard from Lily Bee. Very easy to do.

I first misted the white cardstock with yellow and moss colored mists. Next, I stamped on it. I got some old grungeboard pieces and covered it with acrylic paint. After the paint dried, I added some smooch inks over it to give it highlights.

Next comes the fun die-cut shapes. I trimmed the edges and adhered it to the two sides of the paper.

I added the photos. I cut a small Lily Bee Chipboard in four and used one of those pieces as a photo corner.

This page was completed in less than 30 minutes. Why don't you dig in to your Lily Bee stash and make a quick and fun page for yourself too.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Friday Faves

Happy Friday. We have some lovely layouts to share with you, today, from our gallery.

Katarina created this gorgeous layout called "You Are So Wonderful". I love the title work, the bright red embellishments and the background. It's really wonderful!

Monique's "Sv Den Hoorn" layout caught my eye. I adore the detailing in the upper left corner, the way she created an arch around her photo and the amazing photo itself. This is really, really well designed.

The photo on Machiko's "Fly Over the Blue Sky" layout is so wonderful. I love it to pieces. And, I love how she angled all the different elements on the page to really show it off. It's perfect!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Why be so serious...

>> Thursday, August 12, 2010

A couple of weeks ago we went to one of our favorite restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy a nice evening watching the people and this beautiful fountain than runs down the middle of a little cul-de-sac. It was a beautiful evening and very hot. I thought it would be fun to let the kids walk though the fountain to cool off and have a little bit of fun. Now, Noah can read and noticed the sign right away that said to stay out. Being the good kid he is and hesitant about doing things he's not supposed to, we had a little talk about sometimes it's okay to break a little rule. That it's really just there to keep you safe and I wasn't going to let any harm come to them by letting them walk through the fountain. Now, if they were running and jumping through it I could see the harm, but they weren't doing anything wrong. The walked through the fountain and I think they felt a little bit daring and they laughed a lot. It felt good to watch them have so much fun!

This got me to thinking. I take myself way to seriously! Especially when it comes to scrapbooking. Worrying if everything I do is ok or good enough. If this paper really should go here or this embellishment here or if the feeling is right or the journaling is wrong...blah blah blah! I decided to make this page about my kids breaking the (little) rules and having fun and to challenge myself to have fun and break some of my own rules (whatever those are).

For the background paper I didn't even think about what I was doing. I just did it. I sprayed it heavily with silver and brown mist, then I stamped on it and then I wrinkled it all up and then I tore it up and then put it all back together. (Noah was watching me do this and he knew right away what I was doing. He said "you're trying to break the rules aren't you mom!") It was freeing. And scary at the same time. I like clean lines and this was going against everything I would normally do...but you know what. It was fun. And I got to push myself creatively as well. I have to admit that it took me a few days to finish this page and actually accept what I was doing, but I'm glad I did....just for the sake of letting go for awhile.

Does anyone else ever do this?

While I was challenging myself to not put so much pressure on things being perfect I decided to go to the opposite end of it too and do something really simple. I challenged myself to make 3 cards in less than 20 minutes and keep them as simple as I could. It was hard being so simple and not worrying that I was being to plain, but again...fun!

I challenge you to do the opposite of what you would normally do and see where it takes you!!
