Friday Faves

Happy Friday! We have more lovely cards to share with you this week. We loved seeing everyone's unique take on our card sketch. Thank you to those of you who participated. We will be announcing the winner on Monday.

Shemaine Smith shared this stunning "Thoughts of You" card. I love black and pink together. It's always a striking combination. The doilies make it hip and current and add the perfect finishing touch.

I love the sweet details on Yvonne Yam's card. I love the pleating and the flower. Again, I love the addition of the doily. Overall, it's such sweetness.

Alecia Castro's card really stands out. I love that she changed up the card size to suite her needs. The bow and the little die cut edge make this card really special. Most of all, I love the message. What a wonderful way to encourage someone.

Lovely Week 4 Winner and Some Canvas Awesomeness

>> Thursday, April 29, 2010

Congratulations to Pamala!!! You are the final winner of our Lovely giveaway. Please email kristenATlilybeedesign.com with your postal address, so she can send you your prize.

For those of you who entered our Card Sketch Contest, stay tuned. We will announce the winner very soon.

Take a look at these amazing canvases created by Lily Bee Designer, Ronda Palazzari. They are to die for! I want all three for my own home! When these hit my inbox, today, I wanted to drop everything and paint. I adore these little pictures of goodness and I love her message, "come, sit, chat".

I asked Ronda if she wouldn't mind sharing a bit about how she created these with all of us. Here is what she had to say:

"I started out with 3 blank canvases. I used gesso on the canvases making many textures on the background. I then painted each canvas with bright colors to compliment the Lovely line. After they had dried, I used the rub-ons to complete the background. I sealed the backgrounds using Mod Podge. I knew I wanted a wingback chair, cupcake, & tea cup….something that said “Come, Sit, Chat.” I found a clip art wingback chair I like & sketched it out. I also sketched out the shapes for the other items. I wanted something on each object to be 3-D. I also outlined the objects to give them more of an impact."

Thank you for sharing, Ronda.

Happy Thursday!

A Splash of Color

Good Morning Sunshines!

I am excited to share a layout I made using the "Hello Sunshine" Collection. The vibrant colors of this collection makes me smile! My family and I recently took a trip to the Children's Museum in our city and I knew "Hello Sunshine" would perfectly compliment my photo.

I layered my photo on top of the patterned paper, ribbon, and chipboard in order to give it depth. I used Helmar's Zapdots to prop and adhere the top portion of my photo to the page.

As I was misting the layout, a few large drops accidentally hit my page. I decided to use the adorable Lily Bee chipboard buttons as a way to "cover up" and layer on to the large mist drops. I ended up liking the way it looked because it perfectly matched the "splash of color" feel of the Hello Sunshine Collection and our day at the Museum.

We enjoy seeing all the amazing creations and inspiration over at the Lily Bee Ning site! Be sure to check it out and share your projects with us!

Good Lovely Monday!

>> Monday, April 26, 2010

I'm happy to be able to start off my Monday by looking at the bright colors in the Hello Sunshine collection!

A little technique I did on the chipboard shapes- I added some of the fabulous rub ons right on top of the pattern- I loved the layered look. For the other shape, I just sanded it lightly and wrote the rest of my sentiment on it.

I made this card using my Silhouette machine and then adding dimension with the awesome Helmar Zapdots. The ribbon went down smoothly using their 450 Quick Dry Adhesive- this stuff is great for ribbon!

I also played some with the Lovely collection. It went PERFECTLY with some of my Easter Egg Hunt pictures! I couldn't have picked out a better accent than the "Lovely" definition rub on to add to this page... it complemented the photos just right.
The rub on is on a piece of lined paper from the Three Little Birds collection, and I made the little banner out of the chipboard shapes cut in half.

I hope you have a Lovely day full of Sunshine! ;)

Don't forget about the last week for the blinkie contest- you don't want to miss out on a chance to win the entire "Lovely" line! Click here for details!

hi everyone!  i hope some of you are starting to get your hands on some new lily bee products. i know i was thrilled to get my hands on the new chipboard stickers and rub ons. i used the the lovely line here because it is perfect for spring photos.  the chipboard pieces really make me happy. you can layer them or just use one piece at a time. and as always the rub ons are a perfect accent for projects.  the fonts are great and they go on wonderfully.  oh and i'd like to give a special shout out to helmar.  i used their premium craft glue on the ric rack and the chipboard alphas and it was pretty awesome. thanks for looking and have a great week everyone!

1. Must have scrapbook supply?
Patterned Paper

2. Why & when did you start scrapbooking?

My cousin showed me her "scrapbook" of her kids in 1997 and I freaked. I knew that I wanted to do it, too. I've never felt like I was creative and seeing her book, I felt it would be something I could do to feel creative without having to be. Back in the day idea books were for copying exactly. ;)

3. Guilty Pleasures?

Coffee with cream and Starbucks Chai lattes

4. Two things you want very badly at this moment?
Time and a new camera

Wallet, cell phone and a band-aid.

I like to outline everything with pen or sewing and I love to add dimension.

7. When do you feel most creative?
First thing in the morning. I'm a zombie at night.

No, never.

9. Do you have a scrapbook confession?

I completely lay out my page/project and then gently lift the corners without moving anything and add liquid glue to adhere it.

Far too many; Glee, Project Runway, Top Chef, Smallville, Vampire Diaries, Lost, 24 and Life Unexpected.

11. Jobs you've had?
Retail assistant manager, receptionist, accounting clerk, buyer, and program manager.

6. Favorite Scrapbook Technique/ or Style?

1. Must Have Scrapbook Supply?
Patterned paper, kraft cardstock, stamping ink, and a smooth-writing gel
pen.

2. When & why did you start scrapbooking?
I officially became a scrapbooking junkie about seven years ago, back in the days of shaped scissors and sticker sneezes. I started scrapbooking out of curiosity, and although it took me a long time to shake off the fear of “messing up,” I kept scrapbooking because that curiosity never quite went away. I’m always am looking forward to the next page or the next project -- I never quite know where my love of paper, pics, and storytelling will take me. Robert Frost claimed that poetry is “a way of remembering that which it would impoverish us to forget,” and I feel exactly the same way about scrapbooking.

3. Guilty Pleasures?
Rootbeer (I started drinking it to kick my Pepsi habit, and now it’s become my new habit). Going to the movies (sometimes more than once a week!). I know it’s overpriced, but there’s no better way to watch a movie than in a theater while eating equally overpriced movie food.

4. Two things you want very badly at this moment?
No bills would be nice.
A new camera lens.

5. 3 items that are in your purse?
Ticket stubs from the No Doubt concert I went to on August 11.
Batteries for my point-and-shoot (it runs through these like crazy).
My iPod and headphones.

6. Favorite Scrapbook Technique/ or Style?
I’m all about the details and nuances. For instance, patterned paper is lovely by the sheet, but it really comes alive for me when it is cut into smaller pieces. A variety of styles and techniques appeal to me, but I always gravitate toward a little bit of charm and a lot of color.

7. When do you feel most creative?
I feel most creative on the weekends and during vacations, when I put my “work self” on hold and start to play. Sometimes, though, I find that creating in the midst of a stress storm is just what I need to calm the tempest -- if only temporarily. Playing with new photos and products or re-organizing old photos and products also gives me a creative rush.

8. Do you snack while you scrapbook?
No. Klutzes, food, and precious memories do not mix well.

9. Do you have a scrapbook confession?
Over the past seven years, I have spent the equivalent of the GNP of a small nation on scrapbooking supplies.

10. Favorite TV Shows?
True Blood, The Big Bang Theory, Top Chef, Lie to Me, Psych, Grey’s Anatomy, and Gossip Girl (another guilty pleasure)

11. Jobs you've had?
I have assembled pinwheels, shelved books, answered telephones, compiled street information for maps, written for a newspaper, tutored college students in writing, and served as a medical assistant. I’m now a teacher and VP by day and a college instructor by night.

12. What are you listening to right now?
Ra Ra Riot, Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Matt Costa, Gomez, The Submarines, and Weezer -- for starters.

It's that time, again, to show off amazing projects done by you. Thank you for continuing to support Lily Bee by sharing your work in our gallery.

Kerryn created this lovely layout using our Three Little Birds and French Couture collections. The title "Stop Growing Up So Fast" is something I can relate to. I think many of us can. I love the handmade flowers. The circle under the photo and paper strips really helps draw attention to the photo of her adorable daughter.

Gina's "Chivalry" layout using a mix of our Audrey and Vintage Poppy collections, caught my attention, right away. That photo is just too darn sweet and the title is dead on! These two collections together look awesome and the punch of yellow in the title is the perfect touch.

Ria Mojica really nailed it with her layout titled "Playgournd" created using our French Couture Collection. I love that she pulled the teal and red out of the photo to use with her title work. The photo is terrific and the tree is, well, brilliant!

Next week we will be continuing our introduction (or in these last cases re-introduction) of the rest of the team and will be posting our first winner from the contest post along with the new week's contest post.

Have a wonderful Holiday Weekend!
