a new year...

>> Thursday, December 31, 2009

i can't believe another year has flown by. what are your resolutions or goals for the coming year?

take a look at this gorgeous layout from our dt member jill sprott. i love how she mixed the lines here, the small photos and the stamping.  here is what jill had to say about this: I decided to expand on my hopes to establish more of a balance in my life. The inspiration for the journaling comes from "The Prayer of Saint Francis," which is all about balance/counterbalance. My first resolution actually comes directly from the prayer, and then I continued with the same structure. In looking forward, I also looked back, pulling together some of my favorite Lilybee papers from the past year. I love how papers from all four lines -- Audrey, Vintage Poppy, French Couture, and Three Little Birds -- coordinate so well with each other. It's been a great year for Lilybee, and I'm excited to see what 2010 holds!

this year hasn't been a great one for me, but i am hopeful that 2010 will bring better things for me and my family. i have promised myself that i will not lose hope, no matter what.

thanks for looking. i hope the new year brings joy and happiness to all of you! happy new year from the lily bee team!!

Monday Motivator: Bee Merry

Everyone needs a little motivation on a Monday, but this Monday is different. Christmas is just a few days away, so you're no doubt already in motion, and I'm willing to bet that at this point, Santa's list is nothing compared to your own "to do" list. This is also the time when many of us begin to realize that while store-bought gifts may work for many people on our list, there are some people in our lives who require something different -- something meaningful, something personalized, made with love. That's all fine and dandy, you may say, but it needs to be (1) inexpensive, and (2) easy to create, and (3) wrapped and ready in a day's time.

Lily Bee can help! With a little assistance from some supplies from my stash and some vintage sheet music, these Lily Bee papers became the perfect match for this photo of my lovely daughter.

I began by covering a $2 frame with gesso, and then I painted around the outer edges of the frame with green paint. While waiting for the frame to dry, I turned my attention to matting the photo atop a piece of misted vintage sheet music and a combination of Audrey "Hollywood" paper and French Couture "Handmade" paper. I then sewed around these paper "frames" a few times, loving the way that imperfect lines translate to added charm.

Once the frame was dry, I added bits and pieces of Audrey "Graceful" and "Hollywood" paper, as well as more French Couture "Handmade" paper, trimming the edges with a scissors, and sanding a few areas as needed. I added a coat of decoupage medium, let it dry for a bit, lightly brushed the frame with green paint, and then finished with another coat of decoupage medium.

The finished product:
It may not seem like it at first, but this really is a simple, can-do project. Even if it's not a picture frame that you attempt, hopefully this post gets you motivated to add a little handmade cheer to your Christmas list.

Speaking of added cheer, don't forget to check out the Lily Bee 12 Days of Christmas giveaways. We're on day 8, so there's still time for you to add that "very" to your merry. Leave a comment on one of the daily giveaway posts, and to double your chances, become a fan of Lily Bee on Facebook, and leave a comment there as well.

Happy Holidays!

Year in Review

With 2009 quickly coming to a close, we thought it would be a great time to create some year in review layouts with our favorite photos. Year in Review layouts are fun to make and can be done in many ways. Pick a favorite photo from each month and journal about it, create a collage of all your favorites from your 2009 layouts to conclude your album, or just pick your few favorites and journal about those.

Brenda has done a terrific layout with ten of her family's favorite photos. I love all of her little details; the way she numbered each photo to correspond with the journaling, the fun circles and the rub-ons!!! It's a wonderful layout to end the year with.

I created a collage of all our favorite photos from this year. I have all of these photos scrapped and in my 2009 album, so this layout is a simple, yet fun conclusion to the album.

We hope you are enjoying our 12 Days of Giveaways. Be sure to comment on this post for you chance to win the 4th Day Giveaway.

Friday Faves

>> Friday, December 11, 2009

Welcome to another edition of Friday Faves. We want to thank everyone for posting such amazing work in our gallery. We hope you enjoy this week's picks.

I absolutely adore this sweet layout from Renata Moni. I love the sweet photo, the paper tearing, the heart, everything. It's truly sweet!

Jenni Hufford's layout is so striking. I think the pictures say it all. I love how the bow and the elements capture the sweetness of the photos.

I love Linda Auclair's layout. The photos are just beautiful and I love the way she used the die cut to look like an envelop for her journaling.

Have a wonderful weekend!

My Lily Bee Designer Fave's

>> Thursday, December 10, 2009

What a fun post for me to do! As I was going back and looking through the girls layouts I was surprised that a few I chose were the same ones the girls had picked. I am so thankful for a wonderful design team and their incredible work they create with Lily Bee products. Here we go:

Stephanie Howell

I LOVED this layout. It was one of the first layouts Stephanie created. The pictures of her family touched me along with the journaling. The French Couture line fits Stephanie perfectly.

Katrina Huerta

Katrina and I chose the same layout. I loved it for the same reason as she did-the picture! The page is simple and sweet!

Nicole Harper

I loved this page of Nicole's! Capturing and documenting the little things our children do. I also loved how she used the Audrey line cutting the measuring tape out and the red and yellow combination.

Brenda Hurd
Brenda created this layout for me for S-CHA and I LOVED it from the moment I saw it. The picture is precious and I just love it with the Vintage Poppy papers.

Lori Gentile
Lori always comes up with some creative, eye catching layouts and this was one I loved. Darling picture of her boys and it was great to see the Audrey line fit a masculine layout.

Jill Sprott
Jill is just so creative! Who'd have thought to color in the paper or change the color of the tulle flowers? I love the picture of her girls. And the whole feel of the page.

a different perspective.

>> Monday, December 7, 2009

Hey everyone!! We thought we would do something a bit different and post our own favorite Lily Bee layouts we've done this past year...with an explanation of why we love it. It's always interesting (we think!) to hear about a layout from the creator's perspective.

Check back soon for a twist on this post, Kristen (our owner), will post her favorites!!

from Stephanie...
this one just makes me smile...it reminds me of such a special time in my life and i just adore this layout. (i have to agree...that photo is darling!!)
from Nicole...
this photo of my husband and daughter speaks volumes about their relationship...they can read each other's minds, i swear it!! add to that the fact that they often seem to be in cahoots, and it's a definite favorite.

from Lori:
I was able to journal the full story of how I met my husband and I treasure it because I know my children will when they are older. (awesome idea to get your 'story' down for your kids...love this idea, Lori.)

from Katrina:
this is my favorite layout because it features a rare photo of my husband with one of our girls. the photo shows just how fun and playful their relationship is. and i just love the french couture line...it is my all time favorite. (note to self: she's right...not enough pics of my husband and daughter together. must change that!)

from Jill:
I loved that we celebrated Audrey WITH Audrey -- that is, Audrey the collection and Audrey the icon. I had such a terrific time working with these papers AND with discovering just how many wise and witty quotations came from the mouth of Miss Hepburn. I fell in love with this quote, and could not resist using it on the layout: "For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." It's rare that I'll let a quote do all of the talking for me on a layout, but I could NOT have said it any better! I knew that these words would be perfect advice for my daughter, so I created a page full of recent pics of her, to document my own little lady. (oh, Jill...great idea!! i often forget to look for a quote to sum up my thoughts...great starting point on journaling!)

from Brenda:

I like this layout first because it’s a vacation layout which I almost NEVER do - so it's priceless to me that I documented part of our trip - and second - the colors in the Audrey line are not a 'typical' color scheme - I love that it can be used on everything from vacations to holidays and everything in between! (definitely agree Brenda...vacation photos often go unscrapped, so this is great!)

I think the thing that is clear with all of these choices is that they all focus on the story...whether through photos or our words, these each strike a chord in our hearts.
Which is the whole idea of this hobby we love, isn't it??
:)
