Design Team Mixup, Take Two

As promised, here are a few more pages from our talented design team members, Brenda Hurd and Lori Gentile. Their lifts of each other prove not only that imitation really is a form of flattery, but also show that what begins as a lift can be uniquely tailored to reflect one's own style.

"Beautiful Soul"

"What I love most about Brenda's work is her sense of balance," Lori claims, pointing out Brenda's unique way of drawing attention to her focal point photo and her "knack for placing those finishing details that make it all tie together." Lori selected Brenda's "Family" canvas as inspiration for her own layout, incorporating similar elements such as sewn hearts and buttons. Lori changed the orientation of her papers and photo, and added her own unique (and colorful!) touches to the layout as well.

"A Flower for You"

When Brenda saw Lori's "You Crack Me Up" layout in the Lily Bee Ning gallery, she was immediately drawn to Lori's design. "I loved the squares," Brenda recalls, noting that Lori's idea of combining a variety of patterned squares is not only a great way to "showcase that paper," but is also a brilliant way of adding "smaller pictures without overwhelming the layout." Brenda adopted a similar approach when putting together her layout, incorporating a variety of gently distressed patterned rectangles that reinforce the floral theme of the page.

i hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day.
I wanted to quickly share a few Friday faves (before i go back to the couch to go back into my turkey coma ;)

how fabulous is this?? this tin is a gift in itself...no need to put anything inside!!!

Bee Inspired: Design Team Mixup, Part One

This week, as we all count our blessings, keep in mind that one of the many things that we all can be thankful for is inspiration. Aren't we all so lucky to be in the company of those who are bursting with creative and inspiring ideas?

One of the best compliments that one creative mind can share with another is that of the scraplift, a tribute of sorts that merges another's ideas with our own. Far from being an exact copy, a scraplift is more of a hybrid concept, resulting from the interplay of two people, two styles, two approaches. At least, this is what resulted when our design team members decided to mix things up and seek inspiration from each other, scraplifting and uplifting each other in the process.

Mixup #1: Katrina Huerta and Nicole Harper

"Sweet Girls"

"I was inspired by the overall design," Katrina says of Nicole's original layout, "Life Is a Test." She was particularly drawn to how Nicole "placed the papers, her title work, and the great photo." Katrina made the layout her own by flipping it sideways, tilting the title, incorporating a lovely Lily Bee flower, and putting it all together with her own playful and charming style.

"Duplicity"

When Nicole saw Katrina's layout, "Sweet and Sassy", in the Lily Bee Ning gallery, she initially was inspired by content of the page. "Her title and subject got me thinking about how my daughter can be both sweet and sassy as well, to each extreme," Nicole explains. In addition to the content, Nicole found herself loving the way that Katrina journaled around the page, and did the same on her page. Interestingly, like Katrina, Nicole also rotated the layout 90 degrees (great minds think alike, hmm?), and she made it her own by incorporating Nicole-esque details and additions like the brilliant misted and sewn heart.

Mixup #2: Jill Sprott and Stephanie Howell

"Sweet Thought"

"Beyond the hilarious photo, I love the colors and the design of this page," Jill says, explaining why Stephanie's page "Queen o' the Flip Out" stood out to her in the Lily Bee Ning gallery. Stephanie's use of the Vintage Poppy "Dainty" paper inspired Jill to use the same paper with a different approach -- cutting out hexagons from the paper and placing other Vintage Poppy patterns in the negative spaces. Jill also built on the design to make room for an additional photo.

"I Miss"

"I adore her style," Stephanie says of Jill, whose "Blooming" layout was the inspiration for "I Miss." "She is the queen of layering." Stephanie tried a similar approach with her layout, incorporating colorful modified squares and flowing flowery bits from the Vintage Poppy collection. Stephanie also added her trademark touches (such as her handwritten and heartfelt journaling) for a lovely, graceful, vintage feel.

it's that time of year again. the time to stop and think about what you are thankful/grateful for.

Hey everyone and Happy Saturday!

Today I wanted to share some extra special products our designers did
with Lily Bee products PLUS maya road products.
We were fortunate enough to do a product swap this month,
and I wanted to share some of the team's projects.

Ride 'Em Cowboy
The title was cut from the font Arial Black. I added the circle of paper and the circular rub-on to add some curves into the design.

My Punkins
I stitched strips of patterned paper to the background paper and topped them with my photos, a rub-on, and stamped letters cut from cardstock.

I loved these die cuts and just added a rub on to the bottom edge to create a background for my mini photos, and a title as well!

I sketched a few flowers on the back side of these papers and then cut out the petals. After lightly inking the edges and bending them upward slightly, I arranged them on the page in a bouquet.

Twirl Girl
I knew these tulle flowers would be perfect on a page about my daughter's tutu. I stitched around my title and also stitched imperfect circles before adhering the flowers on top.

Present Card
I cut the rub-on apart and rearranged the text before adhering it to the white cardstock. The bow is just an accordian-folded strip of paper bent into an arch and the present is a square mounted on foam squares.

Friday Faves

Welcome to another Friday Faves. This week's faves come from our Ning gallery.

First up is "Be Happy" by LG Belarmino. This is another layout done using the My Scrapbook Nook kit and isn't is jaw dropping awesome? Not only are the photos gorgeous, but so is all of the layering and wonderful details.


Next is "Angel" by Melanie Blackburn. I love Fall and this layout makes me feel happy. I love the photos, the colors and how she used the bird rub-ons.


"Happiness" by Katja Schneider is happiness. Look at the layers and excellent use of our Rub-ons. I love how it all supports the beautiful photos.


Last, but not least, Lisa Day made this stunning "Gratitude" mini album, also, using the My Scrapbook Nook kit. You can see more in the gallery here.

November Challenge: Vintage Poppy

Happy November! It's time for our next Challenge. This time around we want to see how you use our Vintage Poppy line. The lush colors and rich designs are perfect for all of your Fall/Holiday projects or even those simple every day moments you just have to remember. So, pull out your pictures of leaves, pumpkins, Thanksgiving table settings, adorable smiles, trouble makers, etc., and get to project making.

The Details:
This month, two lucky winners will receive the ENTIRE Vintage Poppy line from Lily Bee.

If you'd like to be one of these winners, submit up to two layouts, cards, or projects using the Vintage Poppy line to Lily Bee's Ning gallery by Monday, November 30, before midnight MST.
